Halloween (2018) is...Good (Spoiler Free Review)

🎃🎃🎃.5 out of 5
Halloween (2018)
Directed by David Gordon Green
Written by Jeff Fradley, David Gordon Green, & Danny McBride.
Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak

I have been anticipating Halloween since they (Blumhouse) has first announced they were going to start the project back around 2016, so I was expecting something great. Halloween wasn't bad, it just wasn't...great.

For a movie ignoring all sequels, continuing from the very first one, with Jamie Lee Curtis on board as Laurie Strode, John Carpenter composing (along with his son and God son), Nick Castle making an appearance, and Blumhouse behind it, I thought it was going to be the Halloween movie. Like, I even thought it was going to out-do the first movie. Unfortunately, I was left unsatisfied.

Don't get me wrong, Halloween had very good acting, it was beautifully shot, it had a heavy Halloween season atmosphere, Michael Myers was great and the mask was extremely awesome, but it just didn't have...something. I just don't know. I can't really put my thumb on it.

Michael Myers is menacing and much more scarier than he was on parts 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, but he still isn't as threatening or intimidating as Rob Zombie's Myers. When I rewatched Rob Zombie's Halloween the other night, I actually felt scared and nervous. This Michael? Not so much. I mean, his kills are awesome and his movement's are swift, but he this Myers just doesn't have the scary factor.

There was also a scene, and don't worry--no spoilers, with a certain doctor, and I just felt it was a "wtf" and maybe even a "why?" moment.

Overall, I think maybe this Halloween movie was rushed. What I truly believe needs to be done, if they want Myers to continue with a while new franchise, is to wipe that slate clean and but the remake button. I know everyone pisses and moans about remakes, but this is what Halloween needs in order to start fresh and do something new and carry on without having strings attached to the original movies.

But Halloween is good. And if you enjoy a good horror slasher, hurry and watch this one.
