Midsommar - In Short

First off, if you're into more contemporary horror movies like It Follows, Hereditary, The Witch, The Babadook, and Suspiria, then you're most likely going to enjoy Ari Aster's Midsommar. I'm not even going to lie; the movie was a bit predictable to me as things unraveled throughout the film, but watching it happen was a thrilling experience. The movie has a lot of symbolism and Pagan traditions that make it a heavy folk-horror, but I found this "cult" of people to be so interesting, weird, and creepy. I won't spoil it, but the weirdest and WTF moment was this ritualistic sex scene that took place. And although this isn't a horror movie that relies on repetitive tropes like heavy gore, blood, and body counts, the few scenes that involve death or the imagery of death is insane and gets under your skin. There's a suicide scene that is really disturbing. The cinematography is brilliant. Read my full review HERE.
